Davis Legacy Azzurri, a U13 Girls team, won the Pleasanton College Showcase last weekend, defeating MVLA by a score of 2-1 in the final. Davis started out strong against MVLA, with Julia Curtis scoring early on a breakaway- placing a shot to the far post from 10 yards out. Gaby Herrera scored next, a blast from 20 yards off an assist from Julia. Davis was able to hang on and survive a furious rally from MVLA in the second half. Davis got outstanding goal keeping from Alex Diaz, pressed into action after a broken arm to regular keeper Nicole Pugh before the tournament. Alex allowed only two goals the entire tournament, showing great poise and decision making.
In bracket play Davis went undefeated, with victories over Leahi of Hawaii (4-0), Pleasanton Rage (2-1), and Orchard Valley Rampage (3-0). The Azzurri’s defense, led by Marin Garcia, Bethany Gen, Emily Marquez, and Camille Renaud, allowed only two goals for the entire tournament. Against Leahi Davis got goals from Hunter Petracek (2), Tiffany Miras and Josie Baca- with a pair of assists for Julia. Against the Rage Hunter and Josie scored a goal apiece and the defense held Pleasanton to one goal in the 2-1 victory. Against Orchard Valley, Davis scored three times in the second half, overcoming a lackadaisical start to win handily.
